Just like in Los Angeles, there’s a lot to discover – so let’s start with a little history.
How Long Have Dispensaries Been Open in Los Angeles?
It was way back in 1996 that medical marijuana use was legalized in the state of California. The legislation that allowed patient use was called the Compassionate Use Act. This law made it legal for patients with a doctor’s prescription to cultivate and own pot plants.
Patient dispensaries followed immediately. One of the first provisioning places was the Los Angeles Cannabis Resource Center. It opened in 1996. There were now centers where cardholders could supply their cannabis needs.
Recreation weed legislation followed two decades later in 2016. Naturally, casual-use cannabis shops came shortly thereafter. Now, everyone of legal age could buy themselves some bud.
LA, being the largest city, was at the forefront of pot shops for both patients and non-medical users.
Nowadays, there are scores of stoner stores all over the city.
With so many options to get ganja, what does that do to prices at your neighborhood dispensary? Let’s look at the menu costs at various metropolitan marijuana marts.
What are Typical Dispensary Prices in Los Angeles?
Now, various things can affect weed prices anywhere. Cannabis, like many consumables, doesn’t have uniform pricing everywhere.
Location is one factor.
A Beverly Hills dispensary may likely have higher prices than elsewhere in the city.
The popularity of a strain is another factor.
There are top-shelf, middling, and bottom-tier varieties of grass. The potency of the particular pot can often determine its position in the hierarchy.
Then there are dispensary deals. Some places have bargains going on certain strains or products. Of course, there’s Cannasaver, the very site you’re on.
We're dedicated to getting you good weed deals at your local dispensary. And we’ll show you how it works a little further on.
But now, we’ll give you a glimpse of some costs you’ll find throughout town.
Let’s start small with a preroll.
At Coastal in West LA, you can get a 1.4g preroll for $12. They also have a coupon for 2 for $20.
At Firehaus on Sepulveda Blvd, you can get an eighth-sized joint for $10.
At Happy Leaf Collective on Westwood Blvd, you can get a 1 gram cartridge for as little as $25. Whereas at New Amsterdam Naturals, they can be had for $20.
Happy Leaf Collective will set you up for $30 minimum.
Over at Coastal in West LA $22 is a bargain eighth.
As you can see, there isn’t a great disparity in pricing.
Typically, a premade joint will cost you $10-$12. A cart runs between $20-25 on the low end of pricing. And snagging an eighth of nug will spot you around $22 to $30.
Obviously, prices are subject to change. You can always call the specific store before you show up to shop, too.
Now, who can take advantage of these prices?
Can Anyone Buy From a Dispensary in Los Angeles?
Are there any qualifications for cannabis buying and consumption in this California city? Sure, there’s always legal guidelines when it comes to getting ganja. Here’s what you need to know.
First of all, medical marijuana patients must be at least 18 with a doctor’s recommendation. They also have to apply for a state-issued card. Recreational tokers must be at least 21 years old.
How much weed can you buy? Those with a med card have higher possession limits. They also can grow more plants at home. Altogether, pot patients can have 6 to 12 plants and eight ounces of cannabis at a time. Casual users can own six plants max and up to an ounce of flower.
Do you have to be a native Californian? No, out-of-state stoners can shop at LA dispensaries. Factually, tourists can buy weed legally throughout the state. All you need is a valid driver’s license for recreational. California doesn’t recognize out-of-state medical certification. But you can apply for one without a local address. Or you could just buy recreational.
So, how do you find a dispensary to shop at and get good deals?
