Choosing the Right Marijuana Edible For You

Posted by CANNASaver on Friday, 09 September 2016 in Canna Blog

Choosing the Right Edible for You

Edibles are becoming a major aspect of the Marijuana industry, in some people’s mind they have even more importance than just weed by itself. For a decent part of the Medical side of the weed industry they are very important, as they allow somewhat of a more seamless delivery of the cannibinoids they are looking for without having to interact with their lungs and respiratory system, as well as eliminating some of the less desirable aspects of smoking like coughing, dry mouth, resin dirtying up smoking utensils, as well as being a less challenging option for people with harsh arthritis or tremors, as grinding weed and packing a bowl and even smoking it can become a hassle for regular users. But more and more people are finding that the edibles they have been directed towards may not be as effective as they may have hoped, though the problem may not be with the quality of the edible itself.

One of the major differences I have noticed people running into regularly is the kind of concentrates used to create the edibles themselves. The companies that produce edibles can go a few different routes in the infusion of their products, from the actual infusion process to the form of the THC being infused. For instance, some companies use what is essentially a very clean BHO product, similar to dabs but extra clarified, which work well for most people but in some cases doesn’t seem to process correctly in specific patient’s systems. When I encounter patients like this I generally try and push them to try something that has been created with cannabutter instead, which processes somewhat different and can be the missing element for several people I’ve talked to. Cannabutter also has some potential to retain a more complex profile than concentrates, as the flower itself is mixed straight with the butter that is then used to make edibles, usually more along the lines of baked goods and some chocolate hybrid edibles. If you have been having trouble getting the effects you’re looking for out of things like gummies or candies, it’s possible that this switch could greatly benefit you.

Another element that is always important to consider is how much of the edible you are actually consuming. In some cases with larger edibles, such as full sized candy bars or very low dosage candies that you have to consume many pieces of to meet your dosage, the sugar content can become an issue especially when looking to use edibles for sleep, as the sugar can adversely affect the THC doing this job. This is also heavily dependent on what your actual dosage is, the higher you end up having to consume the more often you may run into these problems. I have talked to several customers that stray from edibles that may actually be more cost effective or the actual Indica/Sativa specific item they may be looking for simply because they don’t want to eat that much chocolate or candy. I am personally much more in favor of eating less actual edible mass in all categories, though I think there is definitely a market for full substantial actual snack or meal edibles.

Some people that run into the common “THC gives me the munchies,” issue definitely benefit from having more to eat so as to avoid the problem of eating more than their dosage of edibles. Unfortunately because of the lack of regular demand for these kinds of products they are much harder to find on many dispensary shelves, even though there are companies that produce things like THC infused frozen pizzas. One solution to this is to go with pure cannabutter and just use it in conjunction with the food you  are going to eat anyway, everything from baked potatoes to a dollop in soup could be a much easier to control dosage option, though you will definitely have to feel out exactly how much yous hould be using, companies will always disclaim how much is technically in what amount of cannabutter bought at a dispensary but if you go the make-your-own route you definitely need to pay attention and start low, one of my neighbors basically quit trying after making a slightly too bomb plate of spaghetti.

So there are many things to consider when you look for the edible that will give you the best version of what you are looking for, and I highly recommend making notes on what works for you and what seems to work less. I also recommend putting chocolate bar edibles in oatmeal, it’s the best.

Weed Deals in Puerto Rico for Tourists

Puerto Rico Dispensaries Guide for Travelers

If you're traveling to Puerto Rico or you’re a resident, you may be wondering where you can go to buy marijuana and if there's any dispensary deals in San Juan yet, well we are working on it! The first medical marijuana dispensaries in Puerto Rico opened their doors in early January 2017, and even travelers can now legally buy marijuana products. Here is a list of marijuana dispensaries in Puerto Rico that are already open or coming soon, as well as some information about the laws and regulations on buying and consuming marijuana in this U.S. territory often visited by travelers.

Marijuana Dispensaries in Puerto Rico

There are weed dispensaries scattered throughout Puerto Rico and more are expected to open over the coming months. You can find dispensaries in San Juan and other popular destinations for travelers in Puerto Rico.

Clinica Verde is a  marijuana dispensary in San Juan. The capital of Puerto Rico, San Juan is the island’s biggest city and one of the most popular vacation destinations. They also have a dispensary in Caguas.

The Family Dispensary is a marijuana store in Bayamon. Located in the north coast valley area, Bayamon is home to one of three pedestrian-only suspension bridges in Puerto Rico. It's nicknamed the pork rind city, almost as if they knew those munchies were inevitable!

NextGen Pharma is a dispensary in Toa Baja. Toa Baja is also on the north coast, only a 15-minute drive from San Juan.

The Health Clinic is a dispensary in Barceloneta. The Manati Barceloneta river runs throughout the town.

Caribbean Green is a marijuana dispensary with plans to open in Guaynabo, which is a short drive south of San Juan. Check their website for updates.

Marijuana laws in Puerto Rico

Medical marijuana is now legal in Puerto Rico but recreational marijuana is still prohibited. The executive order to allow the medical use of marijuana in Puerto Rico was issued by Governor Alejandro Garcia Padilla in 2015, but only recently have the first dispensaries opened shop. You may be surprised to find out that smoking marijuana, even medical marijuana, also remains illegal. Only marijuana products such as extracts, patches, pills, and other formulations that can be inhaled, ingested, or used topically are allowed.

If you're traveling to Puerto Rico you can shop at the marijuana dispensaries as long as you have a valid medical marijuana card from your home state. Residents just have to obtain a medical marijuana recommendation from a physician licensed to prescribe it by the Puerto Rico health department. At least 40 doctors have applied to issue medical marijuana prescriptions in Puerto Rico, and more than 2,000 people have already signed up and been approved for a Puerto Rico medical marijuana card.

Even though you're not allowed to smoke it, medical marijuana being legal in Puerto Rico is bound to ease the pains and brighten the spirits of countless residents and travelers.

Picking Great Bud:  Red Hairs and Glitter Say a Lot

Picking great marijuana can be as easy as visiting a dispensary with a reputation for selling great bud, but sometimes that can be easier said than done.  Marijuana is an agricultural product, and just like our fruits and veggies, sometimes the crop isn’t picked at the perfect time and quality suffers.  Picking too early or too late can affect the flavor, THC and cannabinoid content and high of the finished product.  So how can a marijuana consumer tell if the pot they’re buying was picked at its peak?  One way is to take a good hard look at the bud before you buy it.  A bud will say a lot about its life in its appearance.  In determining if it was picked at the right time there are two main things to look for, red hairs and glitter.

Red hair

Mentioning hair in pot makes many potheads remember the old days when picking dog hair out of the baggie was a part of rolling a joint.  But red hair in marijuana can be a great sign.  If a bud is covered in red hair, that is a great indicator that it was left on the plant until it was done developing, which means the percentages of THC and cannabinoids will be higher than if it had been harvested early.

There are a couple of important notes concerning red hair in marijuana.  First, not all strains have the ability to produce as much red hair as others.  These “hairs” are actually part of the cannabis flower, and just like many flowers, different varieties produce different color variations.  Some strains of pot produce these red “hairs” while others have smaller, and harder to see, hair.  Second, these hair parts can also indicate a bud that was picked too late and started to lose quality and THC content.  If the hairs seem particularly withered or brittle, another strain may be your best bet this time around unless you can grab it on discount, like day old bread.

Glitter

We are not talking about that movie about the singer.  Glitter, as in the sparkly, shiny stuff that envelopes each and every nook and cranny of a good bud.  Mother nature’s greatest marketing tool ever – a glittery bud and a few well aimed LED lights, and everyone will come and buy your beautiful and irresistible buds.  And if those buds are coated in glitter, then they very well should go and buy those buds!

The glitter on marijuana is actually the trichrome and home to the volatile oils that make the plant what it is -  the oils that make up live resin.  Get up close and personal with a bud sometime and check these little gems out.  Each and every one of those sparkly little dots is really a tiny little bubble of the good stuff.  THC, cannabinol, and other active chemicals are carried and housed in these bubbles of oil.  When marijuana has lots of these bubbles left on it in the pot shop, this means a couple of things.  It means that the bud was allowed to mature to a point where it produced a lot of this oil, which means it should be stronger.  It also means that it was not allowed to stand in the field too long and loose vital potency.  But lots of glitter left on the bud also means that it was cured and handled with care and that its at least fairly fresh.  As pot sits around and dries out, so do these oils, making even the best weed loose quality and glitter if not stored properly.

When shopping for your favorite strains of marijuana at your local dispensary remember to keep one eye open for red hairs and glitter.  Better than thumping a melon, these are two tried and true indicators of mature, high quality marijuana that is sure to provide the high you are looking for at great cannasaver prices

Does Weed Make Sex Better?

Posted by CANNASaver on Friday, 05 February 2021 in Canna Blog

Some smoke to take a little off the edge while others smoke to “amp” them up. For most people, weed helps to enhance whatever they’re doing, feeling, eating, etc. It seems that music sounds better, food tastes better, and overall experiences are better when you’re stoned. But does weed make sex better?

Although a general consensus regarding marijuana and sex has yet to emerge, if you know how to do it right, marijuana can definitely enhance your sex life in many ways. Lusty stoners everywhere have a long history of pairing marijuana consumption and sex, and many with great results.

From reducing stress, increasing libido, lowering inhibitions, and even prolonging one’s staying power, marijuana offers many benefits to those who are looking for ways to improve their sex lives.

Here’s how to use marijuana to enhance your sex life and how to avoid the pitfalls of marijuana consumption that can actually inhibit your sexual desire.

How Marijuana Makes Sex Better

Ever had that awkward moment with a partner – maybe it was the first time you were about to have sex – and you just needed to relax a bit to get in the mood? Or perhaps the mood just felt awkward and you were both looking to change that?

No? Just me? Okay, noted.

While some may turn to alcohol to take that edge off, there is a better, healthier (and safer) way of doing so – turn to weed.

By smoking just the right amount of marijuana prior to sex, stress levels decline and mundane thoughts more easily drift away, giving you much more headspace to devote to the intimacy, magic, and pleasure of sex.

When we’re thinking about work, or chores, or bills that need to be paid, it’s hard to turn the brain off or to even contemplate something as fun and exciting as sex. Indulging in marijuana before sex will clear your mind and invite more pleasant, blissful thoughts to develop.

Marijuana can also enhance sex by lowering one’s inhibitions. We sometimes automatically reject the notion of trying something new, or perhaps we feel a bit shy when faced with the prospect of getting exactly what we want--whatever the reason, such inhibitions can stand in the way of having a good time.

Marijuana can help you to loosen up and put fears, insecurities, and preconceived notions aside.

Mixing marijuana and sex can help open your mind to new experiences and discoveries that may bring a lot more pleasure to your life.

Marijuana can even potentially increase your staying power, helping to prolong the moment of climax. If you or your partner are getting too excited too quickly and you want to slow things down a bit so that you can enjoy each other for longer, take a break to get some water and smoke a little bowl of marijuana.

Just be sure your partner is fully agreeable so they won’t get the wrong impression. Touch your partner softly as you smoke the bowl, and don’t wait too long before you get back to it. You just want to back up a bit but not diminish the passion completely.

But don’t just take my word for it – according to a study, a majority (67%) of the ones surveyed had said that weed does make sex better. However, it’s important to note that you must take caution when pairing weed with sex. Consider a few things when you’re experimenting with sex and weed.

Things to Consider When Pairing Weed and Sex

Hold your horses there, Casanova. Take things slow when it comes to experimenting with weed and “gettin’ jiggy with it.”

Consider Weed Prior to the Night Of

There’s nothing worse than saving it for that magical night, all for it to blow up in your face – that is to say, have a bad experience. Let’s avoid the “This has never happened to me before!” phrase.

Test yourself with different portions. Start small and monitor how you feel. Introduce CBD to the mix if you end up taking too much, to counteract or balance out the effects.

Experiment with different types of cannabis, like concentrates, edibles, flower, etc. to see what your reaction is to each. Pay attention to how you feel with each variation of marijuana. Think about sex and see how you react to that thought.

Consider Your Sexuality

Obviously, everyone is different when it comes to sexuality. It’s hard (see what I did there?) to measure how weed makes sex better because sex is so different for everyone.

Experiment with what you like, what your partner likes, and try new things. Introduce new things, other than marijuana, just to measure comfort levels.

Consider Different Weed Strains

Not all strains are created equal. Some strains may be better than others when it comes to sex, just as they are with things like creativity, stress, etc. Not only should you experiment with different types of cannabis, but strains.

How do Sativa strains make you feel? How do Indica strains make you feel? What about hybrid strains? Try all spectrums and compare. We do have a few suggestions on which weed strains may make sex better for you and your partner.

Best Marijuana Strains for Enhancing Sex

Yes, terpenes make a difference when it comes to the effects of marijuana, so consider a few different strains. Take note that any strain that contains the terpene linalool, which is known to take a load off.

SIDE NOTE: When it comes to using marijuana to improve your sex life, using marijuana in moderation is far more important than exactly what type of weed you choose.

If you over blaze and get too stoned, you will have neither the motivation nor the energy to have sex. Smoke just enough to take the edge off, and no more. That said, there are some marijuana products that are decidedly better than others when it comes to enhancing sex.

Marijuana-infused massage oils have become a popular choice, although they won’t actually get you stoned.

Avoid edibles as these tend to lead to a heavier, more sleep-inducing high.

Indica strains can also lead to sleepiness, so it’s best to avoid those as well.

While a pure Sativa won’t put you to sleep, it might be a bit too much of a head high, leaving you too spaced out to really focus on the act at hand.

What you want is a Sativa-dominant hybrid.

This will provide a well-balanced high with just the right level of mind and body relaxation.

Blue Dream

One good Sativa-dominant hybrid strain to try is Blue Dream. This strain is known to boost your confidence, lower your inhibitions, and get you to be a bit more social and talkative than you usually are. Those may help make sex better.

Skywalker OG Kush

Not too heavy of an Indica, as it’s an Indica-dominant hybrid, this strain is known for relieving anxiety and pressure. Relax – you got this. Walk on the clouds and enjoy the ride. Use a little Kush’n for the pushin’.

Super Lemon Haze

This Sativa strain is like a healthy energy drink. Tryin’ to go the distance? Super Lemon Haze may help with giving you energy and libido, so you can actually last as long as you say you will, without falling asleep after round 1.

Animal Cookies

This one’s a nice, balanced hybrid strain that won’t have you bouncing off the walls, nor falling asleep on your partners. It’s known for relaxation and for being a mood enhancer – in more than one way.

A few other notable strains to consider (as they all have qualities to help you enjoy sex a bit better:

  • LA Confidential

  • Jilly Bean

  • Cheese Quake

  • Grandaddy Purple

  • Sour Diesel

  • Mimosa

And last but not least, be safe you horny stoners!

What Medical Marijuana Means for the South

Florida has passed medical marijuana into legalization, and they could be responsible for more expansion of the industry than they realize. Since Florida is in close proximity to some particularly anti-marijuana southern states, we may see some similarities between what has been happening in Colorado and what could happen to Florida, but there is a chance that their participation in the industry could lead to a much faster acceptance in surrounding states.

I am from Tennessee, which is not a great place to live if you want marijuana to be an important part of your life, as even with heartbreaking stories of kids with ailments that could be extremely effectively remedied by medical cannabis, the push to get any sort of new state legislation on the plant has always failed. But now that Florida will be cultivating medical marijuana there is most likely going to be an overflow of black market sales from Florida to surrounding states, as that market never completely disappears, even in Colorado where you would think recreational sales would have helped squelch that presence there are still many people who use dispensary deals to make extra money on the side.

Some time ago Colorado came under scrutiny from surrounding states because it was said that their law enforcement was having to deal with more and more issues coming from recreational sales, people crossing state lines with products either just bought for themselves or in some cases just general trafficking. While this is of course a negative it does begin to tear down arguments against marijuana use, especially when you see your state’s populous leaving to go somewhere else to spend their money. This has an interesting effect of encouragement on the public from surrounding states, and can help push a state government to more seriously consider just what it is their state may be losing out on by not having their own medical or recreational programs in place.

The initial effect is generally some degree of exodus, and we will probably see many of the people that genuinely need cannabis for medical purposes moving to Florida from surrounding states. In Colorado’s case this heavily impacted the real estate market, and should they decide to move forward with recreational sales they will also see a great rise in their already substantial tourism industry. But even more important is the presence of an acceptance of marijuana in the south.

The south really has made no advancement in marijuana acceptance or legislation, with the exception of some instances where CBD products are available in medical capacities, but recreational might as well be a curse word. But now that Florida has begun their journey to solidify their own medical market, the southern states will have to sit by and watch as Florida rakes in money that could be theirs if they were to think about some form of legalization. This presence alone is important, as the previous closest place to watch deal with the marijuana industry was Washington D.C. I believe.
