Picking Great Bud:  Red Hairs and Glitter Say a Lot

Picking great marijuana can be as easy as visiting a dispensary with a reputation for selling great bud, but sometimes that can be easier said than done.  Marijuana is an agricultural product, and just like our fruits and veggies, sometimes the crop isn’t picked at the perfect time and quality suffers.  Picking too early or too late can affect the flavor, THC and cannabinoid content and high of the finished product.  So how can a marijuana consumer tell if the pot they’re buying was picked at its peak?  One way is to take a good hard look at the bud before you buy it.  A bud will say a lot about its life in its appearance.  In determining if it was picked at the right time there are two main things to look for, red hairs and glitter.

Red hair

Mentioning hair in pot makes many potheads remember the old days when picking dog hair out of the baggie was a part of rolling a joint.  But red hair in marijuana can be a great sign.  If a bud is covered in red hair, that is a great indicator that it was left on the plant until it was done developing, which means the percentages of THC and cannabinoids will be higher than if it had been harvested early.

There are a couple of important notes concerning red hair in marijuana.  First, not all strains have the ability to produce as much red hair as others.  These “hairs” are actually part of the cannabis flower, and just like many flowers, different varieties produce different color variations.  Some strains of pot produce these red “hairs” while others have smaller, and harder to see, hair.  Second, these hair parts can also indicate a bud that was picked too late and started to lose quality and THC content.  If the hairs seem particularly withered or brittle, another strain may be your best bet this time around unless you can grab it on discount, like day old bread.

Glitter

We are not talking about that movie about the singer.  Glitter, as in the sparkly, shiny stuff that envelopes each and every nook and cranny of a good bud.  Mother nature’s greatest marketing tool ever – a glittery bud and a few well aimed LED lights, and everyone will come and buy your beautiful and irresistible buds.  And if those buds are coated in glitter, then they very well should go and buy those buds!

The glitter on marijuana is actually the trichrome and home to the volatile oils that make the plant what it is -  the oils that make up live resin.  Get up close and personal with a bud sometime and check these little gems out.  Each and every one of those sparkly little dots is really a tiny little bubble of the good stuff.  THC, cannabinol, and other active chemicals are carried and housed in these bubbles of oil.  When marijuana has lots of these bubbles left on it in the pot shop, this means a couple of things.  It means that the bud was allowed to mature to a point where it produced a lot of this oil, which means it should be stronger.  It also means that it was not allowed to stand in the field too long and loose vital potency.  But lots of glitter left on the bud also means that it was cured and handled with care and that its at least fairly fresh.  As pot sits around and dries out, so do these oils, making even the best weed loose quality and glitter if not stored properly.

When shopping for your favorite strains of marijuana at your local dispensary remember to keep one eye open for red hairs and glitter.  Better than thumping a melon, these are two tried and true indicators of mature, high quality marijuana that is sure to provide the high you are looking for at great cannasaver prices

What Medical Marijuana Means for the South

Florida has passed medical marijuana into legalization, and they could be responsible for more expansion of the industry than they realize. Since Florida is in close proximity to some particularly anti-marijuana southern states, we may see some similarities between what has been happening in Colorado and what could happen to Florida, but there is a chance that their participation in the industry could lead to a much faster acceptance in surrounding states.

I am from Tennessee, which is not a great place to live if you want marijuana to be an important part of your life, as even with heartbreaking stories of kids with ailments that could be extremely effectively remedied by medical cannabis, the push to get any sort of new state legislation on the plant has always failed. But now that Florida will be cultivating medical marijuana there is most likely going to be an overflow of black market sales from Florida to surrounding states, as that market never completely disappears, even in Colorado where you would think recreational sales would have helped squelch that presence there are still many people who use dispensary deals to make extra money on the side.

Some time ago Colorado came under scrutiny from surrounding states because it was said that their law enforcement was having to deal with more and more issues coming from recreational sales, people crossing state lines with products either just bought for themselves or in some cases just general trafficking. While this is of course a negative it does begin to tear down arguments against marijuana use, especially when you see your state’s populous leaving to go somewhere else to spend their money. This has an interesting effect of encouragement on the public from surrounding states, and can help push a state government to more seriously consider just what it is their state may be losing out on by not having their own medical or recreational programs in place.

The initial effect is generally some degree of exodus, and we will probably see many of the people that genuinely need cannabis for medical purposes moving to Florida from surrounding states. In Colorado’s case this heavily impacted the real estate market, and should they decide to move forward with recreational sales they will also see a great rise in their already substantial tourism industry. But even more important is the presence of an acceptance of marijuana in the south.

The south really has made no advancement in marijuana acceptance or legislation, with the exception of some instances where CBD products are available in medical capacities, but recreational might as well be a curse word. But now that Florida has begun their journey to solidify their own medical market, the southern states will have to sit by and watch as Florida rakes in money that could be theirs if they were to think about some form of legalization. This presence alone is important, as the previous closest place to watch deal with the marijuana industry was Washington D.C. I believe.

I left Tennessee to come to Colorado to be a part of this industry and gain as much experience as I could so that someday I could return and help my home’s market expand as much as possible, but the main reason I left was because I felt that southern states would be among the last to accept any kind of industry existence. But now that Florida has begun their journey I am much more hopeful that the south will take a much harder look at just what can be gained from participation in this growing marijuana world. I just hope that it goes well, so that I can go home someday and help the people close to me.

Organic Pesticides and Cannabis Production

#whatdidyouexpect

I’ve gotten a good amount of questions into whether or not the weed my dispensary grows uses pesticides or is organic, the majority of people inquiring getting quite unhappy with my responses. The pesticide/organic stigma is of course a carryover from more heavily regulated industries like the food industry, and unfortunately with the way that dispensaries work these days it is not quite as available of an option for the marijuana industry.

First off, noone in the recreational or medical side of marijuana sales can be actually considered organic, whether or not it technically is, because none of it has been tested by the FDA to receive that status. This brings up the question “What does that official classification actually mean?” One of the more interesting things is that if you do claim your weed is organic you can potentially be sued. There have been several dispensaries that had to change their names because they initially went with some kind of name referencing “organic,” which again they do not have clearance to use.

As far as pesticides go, the dispensary that I previously worked for did use them, much to the chagrin of many snooty customers, trying to berate me for a decision that my company made to protect their product. In the current industry, at least in Colorado, most larger scale producers have to use pesticides on their product because of their scale alone. The goal for many dispensaries is always to expand into larger and larger grows, so as to minimize loss pesticides are a necessary “evil,” as one plant getting sick in a hundred plus plant grow can be devastating to the entire environment if not treated. As far as I know the only dispensaries I’ve heard of not using any pesticides are primarily the smaller, medical only locations.

These conversations are always hilarious to me. It makes me wonder how much stock people put into labels and ingredient listings, and how much they actually know about the production of products they take to be the “clean” ones they pride themselves on maintaining consumption of. And on that note, some people that I know have been smoking for years previous to any kind of regulated cannabis, in which case there is a good chance they’ve had something with pesticides used on it, or that wouldn’t technically count as organic just because of how it was grown, not to mention I’ve heard a ton of stories about growing amazing weed with just Miracle Gro.

At the end of the day, pesticides are necessary for full sized production facilities, and the CDPHE is very involved in making sure that everything used is above board, limiting the useable pesticide brands to six that are allowed to be used in growing marijuana, I believe. Not to mention no matter what is used in the product’s production should be flushed out before curing, unless the growers literally don’t know what they’re doing, and that stuff is instantly recognizable, it will make you want to die.

I’m not saying don’t inform yourself to the specifics of your dispensaries products, but don’t look down on me if I tell you there are pesticides used during production, you made this industry what it is. Not to mention there’s probably toxic dust in every inch of air that exists outside of a can.

Marijuana Massage Trends to Try at Home

Cannabis has become a part of mainstream culture, mentioned daily by national media outlets and losing its stigma as more and more states legalize marijuana and more people turn to the benefits of cannabis for pain relief, stress relief and treatment for anxiety disorders such as ptsd, and other medical  uses. Cannabis has even shown its merit in the field of massage therapy, giving therapists a new vehicle through which to provide added relief and benefits to their patients. Some of the techniques utilized by professional massage therapists who use marijuana in massage can be practiced by anyone. Here is a description of how marijuana is used in massage by professional therapists, and how you can safely incorporate cannabis into self-massage or partner massage.

How marijuana enhances massage

Cannabis oil has been show to reduce pain and help release tension in the muscles, making it a lot easier for the massage therapist to really get in there and do their thing to fully release the tension and loosen the muscle. CBDs, which are compounds found in different concentrations in different marijuana strains, have been shown to reduce the time it takes to heal and recover from injuries to the connective tissues. Marijuana's greatest benefit to massage however may be in its ability to reduce anxiety and help you relax so that the massage will be more effective. If you're not used to getting a massage, having a stranger touching all over your back and possibly triggering a lot of pain in the muscles as tension is release can be very uncomfortable, to say the least. The relaxing properties of THC in marijuana ingested pre-massage can help you be less self-conscious so that you can loosen up and get the greatest benefit from the treatment.

Using cannabis oil and other marijuana topicals in massage is becoming trendy in modern culture, but it is nothing new. Marijuana has been used for its therapeutic and medicinal benefits for thousands of years, practiced in ancient Egypt, China, and Mesopotamia, as well. The oldest surviving medical texts from these cultures mention cannabis use as if it's a long-known, well established medical treatment. Marijuana was used by the ancients to treat inflamation, fever, pain, and many other maladies and complaints. One treatment used in ancient Egypt was to rub an ointment containing cannabis oil on affected parts of the body to help relieve soreness and inflamation.

Marijuana in Massage Today

Today, massage therapists who use marijuana and massage hand in hand use marijuana infused creams and oils to enhance the massage treatment. The Lodo Massage Studio in Denver, for instance, offers a massage in which a cannabis-infused pain relieving cream is rubbed into the muscles as part of a deep tissue massage or other massage therapy session. The formula they use is reputed to have a soothing, cooling sensation that provides relief from pain as well as anti-inflammatory benefits. It's called Apothecanna's Pain Crème, and it contains  a mixture of THC, CBD, arnica, peppermint, and juniper.  Apothecanna has a whole line of different marijuana-infused massage products, each formulated to provide relieving, calming, or stimulating effects. Life Flower Dispensary in Glendale offers Apothecanna products, and they have a dispensary deal where they offer 10% off topicals every Tuesday. Such massage creams and oils won't get you high, but they can certainly help relax the body.

If you're traveling to Denver and interested in a marijuana massage, you can schedule one through many of the marijuana tour companies including Colorado Cannabis Tours and My 420 Tours.

Using Marijuana Massage at Home

Even if you're not a trained massage therapist, you can still reap the benefits of marijuana massage safely at home. The rule is to not go deep unless you definitely know what you're doing—leave deep tissue massage to the professionals, as you can accidentally do serious injury if you manipulate the muscles incorrectly. But if you keep your touch gentle and your strokes light, moving your hands in slow circles or rubbing them up and down across the muscles, you can gain a lot of relief. You can practice gentle touch massage on yourself or on others, and there are many ways to utilize marijuana to enhance the massage. You can incorporate marijuana infused oils and creams like the professionals do, if you're wary of catching a buzz but would like to enjoy the pain-relieving, muscle-relaxing benefits of marijuana. You might even try your hand at creating your own homemade cannabis tinctures. If you're looking for pain relief and muscle relaxation as well as the blissful buzz, your best bet is to ingest thc-containing marijuana pre-massage. Smoking marijuana or consuming edibles will relax the mind as well as the body, providing both a psychoactive and a physical effect. Be sure to use caution if you've never tried psychoactive marijuana before, and if you're pregnant or you have any physical, mental, or medical conditions, ask a doctor first just to be on the safe side. Especially with edibles, first timers should be careful and moderate with dosage until they get used to the way cannabis uniquely affects their mind and body. Start slowly by bringing just a little cannabis into your massages, and work your way up to using marijuana in higher dosages and concentrations after you're sure you like the effect. If you're uncertain, just stick with the marijuana-infused creams and oils and skip the high.

Great Deals on Delicious Pot Edibles

There must be some serious munchy pot going around lately, because every thought seems to end in food.  Luckily, there are plenty of great deals on some of the most delicious, and cheapest edibles in Denver.  Many dispensaries have coupons available for any of their edibles, but a few also offer coupons on specific brands or flavors of marijuana edibles in their store.

Starbuds Aurora has a BOGO ½ off deal on Edipure licorice in grape and orange cream flavors.  For those who aren’t big on chocolate, this deal is sweet!  But what about the rest of us, where are the chocolate deals, and what are the flavor choices?

Both River Rock North and River Rock South are offering coupons for 25% off of Dixie Elixirs chocolate bars.  Dixie Elixirs offers a handful of yummy sounding marijuana edibles featuring chocolates in several flavor profiles.  For a mellow, sweet and salty snack there’s Chocolate Cherry Pretzel, a blend of milk chocolate, tart cherries and salty pretzel pieces.  If you’re in the mood for something that reminds you of your youth, try the Krispy Kracken, with 34% premium cacao milk chocolate and crispy rice, it will take you back to the playground, and feeling like you belong there, in no time.  Perhaps you are planning a reserved adult get together?  Then Dixie Rolls might be what you’re looking for.  These are reminiscent of those chewy chocolate bites from childhood, only with an adult kick – and the perfect serving size for cocktail trays.  For those with a more grown-up palate, or maybe looking for something to pair with a good beer, there’s the Toasted Rooster Bar.  This 70% cacao dark chocolate bar features roasted pepita and artisanal sea salt for an intense, yet well balanced, culinary experience in a marijuana infused chocolate bar.

Preferred Organic Therapy (POT) Denver is offering a coupon for 20% off Blue Kudu chocolate.  Blue Kudu’s full recreational line currently has 9 different flavor combinations for every taste bud and food mood, and their names are pretty cool too.  For instance, there is the Alpine Glacier mint dark chocolate bar, and the Canyon Lands, which is peanut butter and milk chocolate.  Other flavors include Craters of the Moon (white chocolate with cookie bits), Isle of Capri (dark chocolate with orange), Jungle Roast (dark chocolate with a coffee crunch), Mesa Skyline (milk chocolate and toffee), Polar Caps (milk chocolate and peppermint bark), Zen Garden (cherry almond dark chocolate) and last but not least Tierra Del Sol, a dark chocolate bar with chili, cinnamon and lime.

Labor Day will be here soon and in the patriotic spirit, Preferred Organic Therapy has another great marijuana edible coupon for Incredibles Firecracker Bars at 25% off.  Great for parties or just hanging out, the Firecracker features a white chocolate candy bar with red and blue exploding bits throughout.  Bring your own fireworks to the BBQ and enjoy some of the cheapest edibles in Denver, but act fast, this great marijuana coupon expires when summer does.

All that chocolate sounds just awesome, but what if your allergic, into your health, or just not in the mood?  Then look to Julie’s Natural Edibles the next time you’re shopping for the cheapest edibles in Denver.  Julie’s Natural Edibles are not only delicious and nutritious, they’re good for you (and the planet too).  Available in four choices, all of Julie’s products are gluten free and produced in a gluten free kitchen.  They are also free of refined sugar, pesticides, and GMO’s.  If sweet’s your flavor, then Julie’s has a couple of options.  The maple, almond and sunflower seed Nutty Bite, which is kissed with a hint of cinnamon.  There is also the straight-up granola, Groovy Granola Bar for those who just want something they recognize the flavor of and nothing fancy – there are tons of heart-healthy oats in this tasty treat.  Want something a little sweet and a little salty?  Try Julie’s Fresh Granola.  This trail mix style granola mix includes plenty of oats, fruits, seeds and nuts combined with their cannabutter, maple syrup and kosher salt.  If you’re in the mood for something altogether savory instead of sweet, then try the Roasted Seed Mix.  Ready to eat out of the bag, or sprinkled on your favorite soup or salad, these cannabis-infused roasted pumpkin and sunflower seeds will make your tummy and the rest of you feel so much better than before.  Ready to give Julie’s a try?  It looks like POT is at it again with another great marijuana edible coupon for 20% off Julie’s Natural Edibles

How about those great deals on the cheapest edibles in Denver?  Not only are these edibles cheap and delicious, they are all manufactured right here in good old Colorado – so support two local businesses and go down to your local dispensary and buy some deliciously cheap edibles today!

The Magical Properties of Marijuana

Marijuana Magic: The magical properties of cannabis

Cannabis is indeed a miracle plant, providing us with fiber, food, fuel, fun, and medicine. For thousands of years, people around the world have found benefit in using marijuana medicinally, recreationally, spiritually, and even magically. Marijuana has been used to honor the divine, communicate with the dead, increase psychic abilities, facilitate dream magic, and more. The magical properties of cannabis touted by humankind are numerous, and there is an infinite variety of marijuana spells, cannabis divination methods, and other types of weed magic that have been invented over the ages. Here are just a few of the many magical uses of marijuana.

Marijuana Love Spells

One of the magical properties of marijuana is that it has a very loving vibration. Marijuana is an aphrodisiac, so simply consuming it can be a love spell in and of itself, with the right intention. If you want to get a little taste of what marijuana sex magic can be like, try enjoying some marijuana with your lover while you imagine a loving energy flooding through your body. Touch one another as you blaze some buds or dab some concentrates, letting your energies mingle and unite. As the passion builds, the ecstatic energy is projected into the wider universe as a mutual goal is envisioned. Marijuana magic can also be used to attract a new love interest into your life. Try carrying a marijuana leaf or a bud in your pocket to help clear the way for romance and make all eyes turn to you. One old folk tradition is to take a handful of hemp seeds into a dark field on Halloween night, then throw the seeds into the wind while uttering an incantation: “Hemp seed, I sow thee; come after me and show me!” Then the seeker would turn around quickly to induce a vision of their future lover.

Marijuana and the Magic of Dreams

Another of the magical properties of marijuana is that it is very useful for dream magic. One way to use marijuana for dream magic is to utilize the plant’s ability to help with problem-solving and gaining new perspectives. Smoke a bowl before you go to sleep, and write down your problem on a piece of paper that you place under your pillow along with a piece of bud. When you wake, try to recount your dreams. Think of your problem and see if you have gained any new insights into a solution. Marijuana is also believed to help facilitate meetings with your loved ones in your dreams. A photo of the person that you wish to dream about is chosen, and marijuana smoke is blown over the photo as a means of invitation to come visit in the dream world. The photo is then placed beside the bed or beneath the pillow.

Marijuana for Psychic Abilities

Increasing psychic abilities is another of the often mentioned magical properties of marijuana. Some seers believe that consuming marijuana before performing psychic work helps to open the third eye, increasing one’s ability to see into the future. Communing with the living cannabis plant itself is also believed to enhance E.S.P. It’s believed that by working with the plant--either growing it or simply observing it and absorbing its energies--that one’s vibrations are brought more in tune with the astral plane. There are also marijuana talismans that can be used to increase one’s psychic powers. A piece of bud wrapped in a willow leaf and bound together with a purple thread may be carried as a charm to improve one’s sensitivity to energetic vibrations and encourage psychic visions.

More Magical Uses for Marijuana

This is just a small sampling of the many magical properties of marijuana that still thrive in modern pop culture. The energies of the marijuana plant are said to be not only in tune with the realms of dreams, love, and psychic abilities, but also healing, hope, cooperation, happiness, inspiration, lust, and a host of other good qualities. There are people using edibles for offerings and evocations, people drawing symbolic glyphs on transdermal THC patches, and people using cannabis concentrate oils to enhance sex magic. There are conjurers blowing smoke to the winds to invoke the spirits of the dead, and there are witches burning bowls under the moonlight in honor of an ancient goddess. Cannabis magic is limitless, a frontier that is being explored by modern practitioners of the magical arts in imaginative and daring ways. With the variety of strains and products available, not to mention the amazing weed deals you can get these days, the array of possibilities is definitely intriguing. Whether or not you believe in magic in general, the magic of marijuana is a power we all know and love!
